The Interim Government led by Sushila Karki has decided to suspend the passports of five people, including former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. They have been barred from traveling abroad based on the recommendation of the commission formed to investigate the suppression of the recent Gen-Z movement. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also prohibited them from leaving the Kathmandu Valley without permission.
The list includes former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, former Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi, former Chief of National Investigation Department (NID) Hutraj Thapa, and outgoing Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu Chhabi Rizal.
In the Gen-Z movement of September 8, 19 people, including schoolgoers, were killed when the police opened fire. Prime Minister Oli has claimed that he did not order the police to open fire. But at that time, the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed that the crowd must be stopped from reaching the Federal Parliament building at any cost. After that, Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer Chhabi Rijal gave the order to open fire.
