In the very first month (mid-July to mid-August) of the current fiscal year 2025/26, the government has approved Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) worth 24.10 billion rupees (173.52 million US Dollars).
In total, 127 industries were registered last month. With this, Nepal’s cumulative FDI commitments have reached 675.52 billion rupees (4.86 billion US Dollars).
Out of the industries registered in the last month, 125 were small and 2 were large, with no medium-scale industries registered. Among the commitments, agriculture received the highest investment, with 3 industries in this sector attracting 20 billion rupees (144 million US Dollars)Â in commitments.
The Department of Industry approved a Chinese investment of 20 billion rupees (144 million US Dollars) to set up a buffalo meat processing industry, which significantly boosted the FDI figure.
If this committed investment is implemented, Nepal can export buffalo meat on a large scale. Apart from agriculture, investment commitments were also made in tourism, information technology, services, manufacturing, and energy. 71 industries were registered in IT and 41 in tourism.
