The second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) kicks off today at the TU Cricket Ground, featuring eight teams with a mix of Nepali and international players, and is described as the biggest cricket event in the country.
Nepali cricket’s rise is a testament to consistent effort, dedication, and passionate fan support. The new NPL season seeks to build on this momentum and highlight the sport’s progress.
The long wait ends today as the TU Ground begins hosting matches from 17 November to 13 December 2025. The venue is ready for both day and night games, with floodlights powered by two 750 kVA generators. Each generator consumes 150 litres of diesel per hour, resulting in approximately 300 litres used during night matches. This temporary setup is necessary due to the delayed installation of a dedicated power line and transformer.
The league is projected to generate over Rs 35 crore (USD 2.45 million) from sponsorships, franchise fees, tickets, and streaming rights. CAN anticipates more than Rs 15 crore (USD 1.05 million) from sponsorships and Rs 9 crore (USD 630,000) from franchise fees. Ticket revenue is estimated at Rs 8–12 crore (USD 560,000–840,000). After deducting OTT costs, CAN will receive 71% of the remaining profit.
The ICC’s anti-corruption regulations will monitor all betting-related concerns during the tournament. Prize money remains the same as last year: Rs 1 crore 10 lakh (USD 77,000) for the champion, Rs 51 lakh (USD 35,700) for the runner-up, Rs 25 lakh (USD 17,500) for third place, and Rs 15 lakh (USD 10,500) for fourth. Individual player awards will be announced later.
The opening match will see defending champions Janakpur Bolts facing Kathmandu Gurkhas at 4 pm.
All tickets for the opening game have already sold out. CAN has urged fans without tickets to watch the matches on television or through OTT platforms.
