Hospital in Lalitpur installs revolutionary robotic surgery system

The Baida & Banskota Hospital in Lalitpur is the first to install a surgical robotic system in its operation room.
This step marks a significant leap forward in the field of surgery within Nepal’s healthcare sector.

The Mantra 3 system installed is manufactured by the Indian form SSI. It comprises two components. The surgeon will work with a console, a monitor, 2D touch controls, and ergonomic hand control devices. Head-tracking safety features are in place. On the patients’ side, a modular robotic arm does what the surgeon wants, secured by cart connectivity protocols. Firm parking locks ensure absolute stability. Patient docking is flexible. The operating room (OR) staff can monitor and follow the robotic arm’s move via a ‘Vision Cart’ module. This module shows precisely—in high-resolution 3D—what is happening during the operation through endoscopic technology.

The system, operated by well-trained surgeons, is anticipated to reduce recovery times and improve patient outcomes, setting new standards for healthcare delivery in Nepal. Its installation is expected to enhance patient care by offering minimally invasive surgeries with superior precision.

At its inauguration, Vishwa Srivastava, President and COO of SS Innovations, expressed pride in providing this much-needed technology and emphasised the belief that the skilled doctors at B&B Hospital would elevate the level of care in the region.
