The Election Commission has extended the registration deadline for political parties participating in the House of Representative election, scheduled on March 5, 2026. The deadline, previously set to end on November 26 has now been pushed to November 30.
The total number of parties currently registered with the Election Commission has reached 137, and the applications received for new party registration are also under processing. In view of the pressure observed in the party registration process for the House of Representatives election.
Additionally, parties wishing to participate in the National Assembly election to be held on January 25, 2026, were given a registration period from November 16 to November 22, during which a total of 13 parties submitted applications for registration for that election. Compared with the House of Representatives poll, the National Assembly election saw far fewer applications, showing a limited number of contesting parties.
Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, commission spokesperson affirmed that the institution continues to process all submitted applications and will issue updated lists once verification is complete. According to the Commission, the decision came after receiving a high volume of registration requests and formal appeals from political influencers.
As registration is now extended, political parties have been given additional space to complete their preparations for the approaching election cycle hinting at more participation and heightened competition.
