The Rautahat district administration has imposed a curfew to contain the conflict between the Hindu and the Muslim communities in the Sabgadha village of Gaur Municipality. A clash reportedly began three days ago over music played by the Hindu community during a wedding ceremony when the Muslims were praying at a local Mosque.

The representatives of the two communities had reached an agreement on Friday, but the communities have not adhered to the agreement. Police have informed that some individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The authorities acted after the conflict turned violent with arson and vandalism in various locations within the district. Vehicles, including at least two SUVs and ten motorcycles, have been burned during the clash. Several individuals have been injured in the clash between the two communities.

According to the administration, stone-pelting resumed between the two groups on Friday morning, further worsening the situation. Since then, tensions have continued to escalate. Local authorities report that the clashes have spread to different areas.

The clash, which began in Gaur, has reportedly spread to other wards as well. Although security forces have been deployed, the situation has not yet been fully brought under control.
