More than 60,000 people across Nepal could be infected with dengue this year, according to a projection by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).
The division has prepared an action plan based on this projection. There is a high risk of rapid dengue transmission from mid-July to mid-November. So far, around 1,673 cases have been confirmed across 73 districts.
According to the EDCD, 71 new cases were reported last week alone. Gandaki Province reported the highest number of new cases (20), while Karnali Province had the lowest (1 case).
In total, Bagmati Province has reported 404 cases. Gandaki Province has 358 cases, Koshi Province has 334, Lumbini Province has 278, Sudurpaschim Province has 232, Karnali Province has 36, and Madhesh Province has reported 31 cases.
Around 730 thousand US Dollars have been allocated for dengue control for this fiscal year. The EDCD has stated that 585 thousand US Dollars have already been handed over to local governments to destroy mosquito larvae.
According to EDCD statistics, over 45,000 people were infected with dengue last year, and 15 people died from the disease.
