Nepal has officially opened its embassy chancery in Lisbon, marking a new step in strengthening diplomatic ties with Portugal. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ana Isabel Xavier jointly inaugurated the new premises on Thursday. The event highlighted growing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations.
During the ceremony, Nepali officials expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Portuguese government in establishing the embassy. They described the mission as an important platform to deepen diplomatic engagement and expand collaboration in various sectors.
Portuguese representatives welcomed the opening of the embassy as a positive addition to Lisbon’s diplomatic community and conveyed their commitment to supporting its effective operation. The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Lisbon also extended greetings, acknowledging Nepal’s presence as a new member of the diplomatic corps in the Portuguese capital.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Portugal, Prakash Mani Paudel, thanked the host government for facilitating the establishment of the mission and emphasised the embassy’s role in promoting closer ties.
Later in the evening, the embassy organised a special event to mark Nepal’s 76th Democracy Day. The programme was attended by members of the Non-Resident Nepali Association and representatives of various Nepali community groups in Portugal.
An interaction session was also held with members of the Nepali diaspora. Participants raised issues related to consular services and discussed opportunities to enhance trade, tourism and investment links between Nepal and Portugal.
The opening of the chancery is expected to further strengthen diplomatic relations and improve services for the growing Nepali community in Portugal.
