Balendra Shah has been appointed Nepal’s Prime Minister, marking a major political shift following the recent elections. The appointment was made by President Ram Chandra Poudel on Thursday. Shah, a senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and its parliamentary party leader, now heads a new government formed after weeks of political negotiations.
As the new administration begins to take shape, key ministerial positions are already being discussed within the party. Swarnim Wagle is set to take charge as Finance Minister, while Shishir Khanal is expected to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both names were finalized following internal discussions between party president Rabi Lamichhane and Prime Minister Shah.
Wagle had earlier been presented by party leadership as a key figure for economic management, even during the election campaign. Khanal, a former education minister, has also played a role in party negotiations and international outreach.
The selection of the Home Minister, however, remains undecided. Three leaders are in contention for the post: Sunil Lamsal, DP Aryal, and Sudhan Gurung. Party insiders indicate differing preferences within the leadership, with Shah and Lamichhane backing different candidates.
The formation of the cabinet is expected to reflect both political strategy and internal balance within the party, as the new government prepares to take office and outline its priorities.
