The body of 16-year-old Inisha BK has remained at Karnali Provincial Hospital in Surkhet for five days, as her family refuses to receive it until those responsible for her death are held accountable.
Inisha, a Grade 11 science student at Usha Balwatika School in Birendranagar–1, left home early Saturday morning, saying she was going to attend a tuition class. She and her mother had planned to travel later that day to their village in Gurbhakot. Before leaving, she told her mother she would return within a couple of hours.
When she did not come back by around 9 a.m., her mother tried calling her but found her phone switched off. Shortly afterward, she received a call from an unknown number informing her that Inisha had been found unconscious in a forest area near Shahid Park inside Bhairab Community Forest.
Police and local residents rushed the teenager to Karnali Provincial Hospital, about ten minutes from the site. Doctors declared her dead shortly after arrival. A post-mortem examination has been completed, and further forensic analysis is underway.
Preliminary findings indicate the teenager died after severe bleeding caused by injuries to her genital area. Forensic specialists have described the assault as highly violent, though investigators have not yet confirmed whether more than one person was involved. Samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory, and a detailed report is expected in the coming days.
Police have detained four suspects in connection with the case, three of whom are minors.
The incident has sparked protests in Birendranagar and Kathmandu. Rights groups and local residents have called for a transparent investigation and strict action against those responsible. The victim’s family has filed a complaint accusing four individuals of rape and murder and says they will not claim the body until justice is delivered.
