Kathmandu Metropolitan City is launching a community film festival called “Tol Tolma Film Mahotsav” (Film Festival in Every Neighbourhood), inviting proposals from non-profit community organisations, youth clubs, cultural groups, and ward development committees to host and manage screenings across the city.
Interested organisations have seven days to submit detailed proposals to the city’s Heritage and Tourism Department. Venues will include traditional courtyards, bahals, river banks, amphitheatres, and parks. The city will provide technical support, including LED screens and sound systems for curated film screenings.
The initiative is part of Kathmandu’s commitment as a member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network under the film category, with the broader goal of developing and promoting the creative industries.
Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol had announced the programme after returning from this year’s Cannes Film Festival, signalling the city’s ambition to connect global film culture with grassroots community spaces at home.
