Mass Sweep in Bhaktapur as Police Target Gang Networks in Capital

Police in Bhaktapur detained 60 individuals in a single day as part of a sweeping operation targeting theft and suspicious activity.

The operation, carried out on Chaitra 21 by the District Police Office and its subordinate units, focused on individuals suspected of involvement in motorcycle theft and related offences. Police said those detained had been under observation for some time, and the action followed continued monitoring of criminal activity in the area. Officials added that the “sweep operation” will continue in the coming days.

During the same drive, officers also arrested a public bus driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was taken into custody during a routine check in the Radhe Radhe area.

In a separate crackdown in Kathmandu, police arrested 18 individuals, including an alleged gang figure known as Sanu Bhai. Identified as Yuvraj Gurung, he was detained from the Samakhusi area during an overnight operation targeting organised crime.

Police said the arrests are part of an ongoing campaign against gang-related activities in the capital. Gurung, originally from Nuwakot, has been arrested multiple times in the past and is believed to have links with established criminal networks. He has previously faced charges related to illegal weapons possession.

Authorities say the operations in both Bhaktapur and Kathmandu reflect a broader effort to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public safety through sustained action.
