A high-level delegation of European Union ambassadors has arrived in Nepal for a two-day mission, the most substantial show of European diplomatic engagement with Kathmandu in recent memory.

The visit, running from 25 to 26 May, brings together 22 ambassadors and deputy heads of mission from EU member states, led by EU Ambassador to Nepal Véronique Lorenzo. The delegation includes representatives from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

Talks are scheduled with Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday, alongside meetings with the ministers of foreign affairs, tourism, and education. The ambassadors will also hold discussions with private sector leaders and civil society groups.

Ambassador Lorenzo said the mission was intended to congratulate the new government and reaffirm the EU’s support for Nepal’s development priorities, pointing to areas such as trade, investment, and climate action as potential avenues for deeper cooperation.
