Mind Your Words, RSP Chief Tells New Lawmakers

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has urged newly elected lawmakers from his party to be cautious in their public statements, warning that their words carry weight beyond domestic politics.

Speaking at an orientation programme for RSP members of the House of Representatives, Lamichhane stressed that lawmakers must recognise the responsibility that comes with their role. He noted that they are no longer acting solely as activists or professionals but as public representatives whose conduct reflects on the institution.

He advised party members to consult senior leaders before making public remarks, highlighting that statements made by lawmakers can have implications for Nepal’s international relations and economic outlook.

Lamichhane also encouraged lawmakers to stay grounded and connected to the public. He asked them to prioritise visiting their constituencies, listening to local concerns, and working directly with communities rather than focusing on high-profile events.

In a push for greater accountability, he suggested that lawmakers use government hospitals for treatment, saying it would help them better understand gaps in public services and the need for improvements.

The RSP chief also reiterated the party’s commitment to the constitution and urged members to maintain a respectful approach toward leaders of older political parties, acknowledging their role in shaping the country’s political landscape.

The orientation comes as the RSP continues to position itself as a reform-orientated force in national politics. The party leadership has emphasised discipline, responsibility, and public engagement as key expectations from its lawmakers.
